Get to know Cortes

Cortes is an administrative ward of Madrid in the Centro district. Its name comes from the Congress of Deputies, the lower house of the Spanish parliament, which sits inside its limits. It borders Justicia to the north, Embajadores to the south, Sol to the west and the Retiro district to the east.

Within it is the area known as the Barrio de las Letras, also called Huertas, which many consider a neighbourhood in its own right. Its edges are the Paseo del Prado and the streets Atocha, Alcalá, Montera and Carretas. It had 10,435 residents in 2018.
