Get to know Los Alcázares

Los Alcázares is a coastal municipality in the Region of Murcia, on the western side of the Mar Menor, Europe's largest saltwater lagoon. Until 1983 it was split between Torre-Pacheco and San Javier, and on 13 October that year it became a municipality of its own. That date is marked every year with a week of live music, shows, windsurfing contests and fireworks.

Besides Los Alcázares itself, the municipality includes Los Narejos, Punta Calera and Las Lomas del Rame. The lagoon is usually warmer than the Mediterranean, which draws sailors, windsurfers and kiteboarders. A historic military air base stands at the southern end of town.
