Get to know Llanada Alavesa
The Cuadrilla de Salvatierra-Arabako Lautadako kuadrilla is one of the seven cuadrillas of the province of Álava, in the Basque Country. It covers the northeast of the province and the eastern half of the wide valley known as the Llanada Alavesa. Salvatierra, or Agurain, is its capital and largest town, and the old market centre of the area.
Farming dominates, with cereals, potatoes and sugar beet, and more than sixty small hamlets are grouped into eight municipalities. Besides Salvatierra and Alegría, these are Aspárrena, Barrundia, San Millán, Elburgo, Iruraiz-Gauna and Zalduendo de Álava. The population is growing, above all in Alegría and Salvatierra, as people move in from Vitoria.
