Get to know Linares

Linares is a municipality in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, and the capital of the Sierra Morena comarca. It is the second largest city in the province and the main town of northern Jaén, with state and regional government services and a University of Jaén campus. For centuries it lived from mining and industry, and today its economy is mostly services.

The municipality spans hill country and open farmland, and the Guadiel, Guadalimar and Guarrizas rivers mark its edges. Besides the city, it includes the local entity of Estación de Linares-Baeza. Nearby lie the remains of Castulo, an Iberian and Roman mining town.
