Get to know Lérida

Lleida, Lérida in Spanish, is a city in the west of Catalonia and the capital of Segrià comarca, the Ponent region and the province of Lleida. It was the main town of the Iberian Ilergetes, and under Augustus it became the Roman municipality of Ilerda. Its university was the first in Catalonia and the Crown of Aragon.

Beyond the city, the municipality takes in Raimat and Sucs, and the nearest rural areas form the Horta de Lleida. Landmarks include the Seu Vella, the New Cathedral, Gardeny Castle and the Palau de la Paeria. Lleida is the go-to city for hospitals, schools and leisure for a wide area of its province and parts of Aragon.
