Get to know Lepe

Lepe is a town and municipality in the west of the province of Huelva, in Andalusia, near the Portuguese border. It is the most populous place in the province after the capital. The Phoenicians founded it in a small valley by the Piedras river, and sailors from Lepe took part in the discovery of America.

Besides the town itself, the municipality includes La Barca, Pinares de Lepe, El Terrón, La Antilla and part of Islantilla. Its beaches are La Antilla, Santa Pura and Nueva Umbría, and El Terrón has a fishing port. The Marismas del río Piedras y Flecha del Rompido are its main natural area.
