A young town in the Vega de Granada, about 8 km from the city, and the third largest municipality of the Granada metropolitan area.
Las Gabias, often just called Gabia, lies in the central southern part of the Vega de Granada, in Andalusia. It is the third most populous municipality of the Granada metropolitan area after Granada and Armilla, and one of the youngest towns in Spain. The name may come from Hisn Caviar, meaning military tower, after the one that still stands in Gabia Grande.
The municipality brings together Gabia Grande, its seat, with Gabia Chica, Híjar, Los Llanos, Pedro Verde and San Javier. The river Dílar runs through it, and there is an early Christian baptistery along with Roman and Muslim remains. It also has the first full golf course in the province.
