Get to know La Vega Baja

Vega Baja del Segura, known locally as Vega Baja, lies at the southern tip of the province of Alicante, on the border with the Region of Murcia. Orihuela is its historic capital, while Torrevieja, on the coast, is its most populous town. The rice dish arroz con costra comes from here.

The lower Segura valley is flat and irrigated, with market gardens, set against drier mountain areas. On both sides of the river mouth the comarca opens onto the Costa Blanca. Pilar de la Horadada, Almoradí, Callosa de Segura, Guardamar del Segura, Rojales and Albatera are among its towns.
