Get to know La Línea de la Concepción

La Línea de la Concepción is a municipality in the Campo de Gibraltar comarca, in the province of Cádiz. It lies on the sandy isthmus on the eastern side of the Bay of Gibraltar, and the whole Gibraltar-Spain border runs along its southern edge. The town has close economic and social ties with the British territory next door.

The first homes, from the 18th century, went up behind the Spanish fortification lines built during the sieges of Gibraltar. La Línea belonged to San Roque until it became a municipality of its own in 1870. Its people have long found work in Gibraltar, and its fertile land still supplies the Rock with fruit and vegetables.
