Get to know La Janda

La Janda is a comarca in the centre of the province of Cádiz, in Andalusia, named after the vanished Laguna de la Janda. To the west it meets the Atlantic at Cape Trafalgar, which gave its name to the famous naval battle. The events of Casas Viejas also took place here.

The coastal part takes in Vejer de la Frontera, Conil de la Frontera and Barbate, while Alcalá de los Gazules, Benalup-Casas Viejas, Medina Sidonia and Paterna de Rivera lie inland. Traditional almadraba tuna fishing still goes on at Conil, Barbate and Zahara de los Atunes. Much of the interior belongs to the Los Alcornocales Natural Park.
