La Carolina is a municipality in the province of Jaén, in Andalusia, in the Sierra Morena comarca. It is the natural gateway to Andalusia through the Despeñaperros pass. The A-4 motorway crosses it.
Its territory includes the settlements of La Carolina, Navas de Tolosa, La Fernandina, Raso Guindo and La Isabela. Part of the Despeñaperros natural park lies here. A decisive battle of the Reconquista took place near Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212.
