A Poniente Granadino municipality of olive groves, with the ruins of an Arab castle on a crag in the middle of town.
Íllora lies in the eastern part of the comarca of Loja, in the province of Granada, Andalusia. It borders Moclín, Pinos Puente, Montefrío and other Granada municipalities, as well as Alcalá la Real in Jaén. Its economy is rural, built mostly on olives.
Besides Íllora itself, the municipality takes in Alomartes, Tocón, Escóznar, Obéilar, Brácana, Ventas de Algarra, Vallequemado and La Alhondiguilla. The Genil river runs through its land. On top of a crag in the town centre, parts of the wall of an old Arab castle still stand.
