Get to know Hernani

Hernani is a town and municipality in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country, within the comarca of San Sebastián. The Chillida-Leku museum stands within its boundaries, and Victor Hugo named the hero of his play Hernani after the town. Its June festivities honour John the Baptist and feature the popular azeri dantza.

The town sits on the left bank of the Urumea at the foot of Mount Santa Barbara, looking over much of the valley. Since 2010 the municipality has included the minor local entity of Ereñotzu. It borders San Sebastián, Astigarraga, Arano, Elduayen, Errenteria, Lasarte-Oria and Urnieta.
