Get to know Guardamar del Segura

Guardamar del Segura is a coastal town in the Vega Baja del Segura comarca, province of Alicante, Valencian Community, at the mouth of the river Segura. It is the southernmost Valencian-speaking town and the only one in its comarca where Valencian is traditionally spoken. Phoenician remains, a tenth-century caliphal rábita and the Lady of Guardamar have all been found here.

Its dunes cover 800 hectares by the sea, held in place by a pine forest planted in the early twentieth century, and El Rebollo is among the best known beaches in the province. There is a marina, housing estates such as El Raso and the Torre de los Americanos, a 380 m naval antenna built in 1962. Local festivals include Moros i Cristians, L'Encantà and the Fogueres de Sant Joan.
