Get to know Granadilla de Abona

Granadilla de Abona is a municipality in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the south of the island. It is the fourth most populous on Tenerife, after Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Arona. Its seat is the town of Granadilla, set inland above the coast.

The municipality stretches from the high centre of the island, where Mount Guajara rises, to the Atlantic Ocean. On the coast lie Reina Sofía Airport and the beach town of El Médano, known for major windsurfing competitions, with La Montaña Roja, a protected volcanic cone. There is also a wind farm.
