Get to know Getafe

Getafe is a city in the south of the Community of Madrid, bordering the capital and part of its metropolitan area. It grew up beside the old royal road from Madrid to Toledo and in the 20th century turned from a farming village into one of the region's most industrial cities. It is home to one of Spain's oldest military air bases, an Airbus factory and La Magdalena Cathedral, seat of the Diocese of Getafe.

Neighbourhoods include Getafe Centro, Getafe Norte, Buenavista, El Bercial, Juan de la Cierva, Los Molinos, La Alhóndiga and Las Margaritas. The Cerro de los Ángeles hill, traditionally seen as the geographical centre of the Iberian Peninsula, lies within the municipality. Charles III University of Madrid has its main campus here.
