A provincial capital where four rivers meet, with a preserved old quarter and the widest Gothic nave in the world.

Get to know Gerona

Girona is the capital of the province of Girona and of the Gironès comarca in Catalonia, 99 km northeast of Barcelona. Much of its ancient old quarter has been preserved, bounded by the Passeig de la Muralla along the old city walls. The Call, one of the best-kept Jewish quarters in Spain, the colourful houses on the Onyar and the cathedral stand out.

The Ter, Onyar, Galligants and Güell rivers meet here. Beyond the old quarter lie neighbourhoods such as Eixample, Montilivi, Palau Sacosta, Montjuïc, Fontajau and Taialà. Many professional cyclists have settled in the city, drawn by its well-kept secondary roads.
