Errenteria lies by the bay of Pasaia, within the San Sebastián metropolitan area, and is the third largest town in Gipuzkoa.

Errenteria, Rentería in Spanish and often called Orereta, is a town in the Oarsoaldea comarca of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country. King Alfonso XI of Castile founded it as Villanueva de Oiarso, and it grew into a heavily industrial town near the French border.

The municipality covers Errenteria itself, Zamalbide and neighbourhoods such as Beraun. The river Oiartzun runs through town, which borders Lezo, Hernani, Astigarraga, Oiartzun and the San Sebastián district of Altza.
