Ermua is a town in the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country, right on the border with Gipuzkoa. It belongs to the Durangaldea comarca, though it lies in the Deba basin and is linked in many ways with Lower Deba. It grew greatly in the 1960s and 1970s as a dormitory town for Eibar, and both are industrial towns.

The town sits in a steep-sided valley beside the Ego, so building space is tight and Ermua is one of the most densely populated towns in the Basque Country. The N-634, a shared exit from the AP-8 toll road and the narrow gauge railway between Bilbao and San Sebastián all connect it with Eibar. Historic buildings include the Renaissance Church of Santiago Apóstol, the Baroque Valdespina Palace, now the town hall, and the sixteenth century Lobiano Palace.
