Get to know Cuadrilla de Ayala

Cuadrilla de Ayala, in Basque Aiarako eskualdea or Aiaraldea, is one of the seven cuadrillas of Álava, in the Basque Country. It is known as Cantábrica Alavesa because it covers most of the Álava land that drains to the Cantabrian Sea, the historical Tierra de Ayala. It lies in the northwest of the province, next to Biscay and the province of Burgos, within the area of influence of Bilbao.

Most of the comarca sits in the upper basin of the Nervión river. Laudio/Llodio and Amurrio are its main towns, and Ayala/Aiara, Artziniega and Okondo complete it. The comarca's institutions have their seat in Respaldiza, in the municipality of Ayala.
