The Vega de Granada is a comarca in the centre of the province of Granada, in Andalusia, named after the basin around the city of Granada. Crossing it, the Genil river leaves very fertile alluvial soils and wide poplar groves. Federico García Lorca, the poet, left a strong mark here.
Around Granada lie Armilla, Las Gabias, Maracena, Atarfe, La Zubia, Albolote and Churriana de la Vega. The west is flat apart from Sierra Elvira. Elsewhere the land rises into Sierra Nevada, the Sierra de Huétor and the Sierra de la Alfaguara.
