Comarca de Alhama lies in the western part of the province of Granada, in Andalusia, next to the Axarquía of Málaga. Its historic capital and largest municipality is Alhama de Granada, which gives the comarca its name. The south takes in the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park.

Besides Alhama de Granada, it includes villages such as Zafarraya, Jayena and Játar. El Temple, in the northeast, groups La Malahá, Chimeneas, Escúzar and Ventas de Huelma. Neighbouring comarcas are Loja, the Vega de Granada, the Valle de Lecrín and the Costa Granadina.
