A Spanish autonomous city on the African shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, between the Mediterranean and the border with Morocco.
Ceuta is an autonomous city of Spain on the North African coast, on the eastern side of the African shore of the Strait of Gibraltar. It became an autonomous city in 1995, having been a regular municipality of the province of Cádiz. Most residents are Christians and Muslims, with small Sephardic Jewish and Sindhi Hindu minorities.
The centre and the oldest neighbourhoods lie by the port and on the slopes of Monte Hacho, on the small La Almina peninsula, while the rest of the city spreads across the isthmus. Its port plays a key role in crossings of the strait. As a free port, Ceuta enjoys tax advantages that favour trade.
