Caniles lies in the eastern part of the Baza comarca, in the province of Granada, Andalusia. It sits at the edge of a plain, between the northern slope of the Sierra de Baza and the basin of the same name. Farming is its main activity.

The Gállego and Guadalopón rivers run through the municipality, and part of its land is the Sierra de Baza natural park. Its settlements are Caniles, La Vega, Los Gallardos, Balax, Los Pinos, Maclite, Las Molineras, El Francés, Rejano, La Jauca and Los Olmos.
