Get to know Canfranc

Canfranc is a Pyrenean municipality in the comarca of La Jacetania, in the province of Huesca, Aragon. It lies in the Aragón valley and consists of two villages: the original village and Canfranc Estación, which grew up around the international railway station.

The international station was built to serve railway traffic across the Pyrenees, and the Somport road tunnel now carries the traffic that once crossed the mountain pass. In October 1288 the Treaty of Canfranc was signed here between Alfonso II of Aragon and Edward I of England. The Camino de Santiago route through Aragon enters the village here.
