Caldas de Reis is the capital of the comarca of Caldas, in the north of the province of Pontevedra, Galicia. It sits in the Umia valley, close to the Ría de Arousa, between inland Galicia and the Atlantic coast. Its thermal waters have been known since antiquity, when Roman Aquis Celenis was a staging post on Via XIX.

Besides the town, the municipality includes Sayar, Vemil, César, Carracedo, Godos and Arcos da Condesa. The Atlantic motorway and the Portuguese Way to Santiago both pass through, and medieval bridges still cross the Umia and the Bermaña. Highlights include the Romanesque church of Santa María, the church of Santo Tomás Becket, several pazos and the Festa dos Callos, a festival of tourist interest in Galicia.
