Get to know Calatayud

Calatayud is a town in the province of Zaragoza, Aragon, and the seat of the comarca of Calatayud. It is the second-largest town in the province after Zaragoza, and the largest in Aragon outside the three provincial capitals. In 1977 it held Spain's first democratic elections after Franco one day early, ahead of a visit by King Juan Carlos I.

The town lies along the river Jalón, in the midst of the Iberian System. Since 2003 it has had a station on the Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona high-speed line, and the A-2 motorway runs past. It is home to a UNED centre and the Spanish Army's logistics academy.
