Briviesca is a town in the north of the province of Burgos, Castile and León, the head of its judicial district and capital of the La Bureba comarca. The Autrigones made it their capital, and Roman Virovesca grew at the crossroads of two important roads. The Way of St James helped it reach its height in the Renaissance.

Five settlements make up the municipality: Briviesca, Cameno, Quintanillabón, Revillagodos and Valdazo, with wide green spaces open to fields and hills. Highlights of its monumental centre include the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor, the Monastery of Santa Clara with its Gothic cloister, the Castilian Plaza Mayor and the Church of San Martín. Its place on the rail and road routes from France to Madrid and Portugal brought industry, centred on the large La Vega industrial estate.
