Get to know Boiro

Boiro is a municipality in the comarca of Barbanza, in the province of A Coruña, on the southern slope of the Barbanza range. It opens south onto the Ría de Arousa and borders Rianxo, A Pobra do Caramiñal, Porto do Son and Lousame. Since the second half of the twentieth century it has grown on shellfishing, aquaculture, canning and mussel rafts.

Most people live on the coast, in Boiro, Escarabote and Cabo de Cruz. The parishes are Boiro, Lampón, Castro, Cespón, Abanqueiro, Bealo, Cures and Macenda, and the beaches include Barraña, close to the centre, Carragueiros and Mañóns. The hills hold many megalithic monuments, and the Castros de Neixón are one of the major Iron Age sites of the northwest.
