Blanes is a town and municipality in the comarca of Selva, in the province of Girona, Catalonia. It is known as the Gateway to the Costa Brava, which runs from here to the French border. Under Roman rule it was called Blanda or Blandae.

The town has botanical gardens, coves such as Cala Bona and beaches backed by mountains. Sa Forcanera is the first cove of the Costa Brava coming from the south. During the Santa Anna festival the town holds the Concurs de Focs d'Artifici, a fireworks competition.
