Get to know Ibaiondo

Ibaiondo is the fifth district of Bilbao, in Biscay, and spans both banks of the ría. Its name is recent and means beside the river in Basque. It is also the largest district of the city, and much of its land is Mount Pagasarri.

The original walled city, the Casco Viejo, lies here, with the Santiago Cathedral and Saint Anton Church, both from the fifteenth century. Its other neighbourhoods are La Peña, San Adrián, San Francisco and Bilbao la Vieja, while Miribilla was built from 1999.
