Begoña is the fourth district of Bilbao and a former municipality, annexed to the city in the twentieth century. It borders Txurdinaga, Zurbaran and Ibaiondo, and reaches Etxebarri and Basauri.
It is divided into the neighbourhoods of Begoña, Bolueta and Santutxu. Its basilica of Our Lady of Begoña, patron of Biscay, is its main emblem, and the name Begoña comes from it.
