Get to know Betanzos

Betanzos is a municipality in the province of A Coruña, in Galicia, capital of the comarca of the same name and part of the metropolitan area of A Coruña. Its town centre stands on a hill, on a peninsula formed where the Mandeo and Mendo rivers meet and create the Betanzos estuary.

It is also known as Betanzos of the Knights and was the capital of the province of Betanzos, one of the seven of the old Kingdom of Galicia. Its old quarter, with Gothic monuments such as the Church of St Francis, erected in 1387, is a historic-artistic ensemble. In August, the festival of San Roque launches a very large paper balloon.
