A Costa del Sol town that runs from the Sierra de Mijas down to the sea, with a marina, a cable car and a Buddhist stupa.
Benalmádena is a town in the Costa del Sol Occidental comarca, in the province of Málaga, Andalusia, and part of the Málaga metropolitan area. Paper making and vineyards kept it going in the 18th and 19th centuries, before tourism made it one of the main resorts of the Costa del Sol. Today it has one of the largest marinas in Andalusia, a cable car, Colomares Castle and the Benalmádena Stupa, the largest Buddhist stupa in Europe.
Life is spread across Benalmádena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Costa, three centres that growth is slowly joining together. The land climbs from the sea, which in places meets cliffs, up to the summits of the Sierra de Mijas. Both the A-7 motorway and the N-340 road cross it from east to west.
