Get to know el Carmel

El Carmel is a popular neighbourhood of the Horta-Guinardó district in Barcelona, in the upper part of the city. It extends across the hill of the same name, part of the foothills of the Collserola range, with rugged terrain and many steep streets.

Before the municipal mergers it was split between four towns: Gràcia, Sant Joan d'Horta, Sant Martí de Provençals and Sant Andreu de Palomar. Until the 1920s it was rural, and from the 1960s large apartment blocks were built.
