Balsareny is a municipality in the province of Barcelona, in Catalonia, in the north of the comarca of Bages. It lies in the Llobregat valley, on rolling ground covered with Aleppo pine forest, and borders Navàs, Gaià, Sallent de Llobregat and Castellnou de Bages.
The BP-4313 road links it with Súria and Avinyó. The village grew around its castle, at the confluence of the Mujal and the Llobregat, and its Romanesque church of Santa Maria dates from the late 13th century. Potassium salts have been mined here since 1945, and the textile industry flourished in the 19th century.
