Get to know Baiona

Baiona is a tourist town in the province of Pontevedra, in Galicia, with a medieval historical centre by the outlet of Vigo Bay. It belongs to the metropolitan area of Vigo, and tourism and fishing drive its economy.

It was the first town in the Old World to learn of the discovery of the Americas, when Martín Alonso Pinzón landed on its coast. Every year, on the first weekend of March, the old town holds La Arribada, a medieval festival. The Portuguese Way of the Camino de Santiago runs through Baiona, and Ramallosa, Bahiña and Belesar are its parts.
