Bailén is a town in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, in the Sierra Morena comarca. It sits on the natural pass where routes from the centre, east and north of the peninsula lead south. Pottery, wine, hospitality, field crops and olive oil keep the local economy going.
The A-4 motorway, the old Nacional IV, runs through the municipality, which borders Baños de la Encina, Guarromán, Linares, Jabalquinto, Espeluy and Villanueva de la Reina. Its main landmark is the Isabelline Gothic parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, built in the fifteenth century. Several Gothic and Baroque hermitages and the San José Obrero neighbourhood round out the town.
