Get to know Ávila
Ávila is the capital of the province of Ávila in Castile and León, on the right bank of the Adaja. Its complete medieval wall defines the city, and the old town with its churches outside the walls has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. It is often called the City of Stones and Saints.
Inside the walls stands the cathedral del Salvador, whose apse is built into the wall itself, while the basilica of San Vicente lies just outside. As the highest provincial capital in the country, the town sees snow fairly often in winter.
