Get to know Arroyo de la Encomienda

Arroyo de la Encomienda is a municipality in the province of Valladolid, Castile and León, and now the second largest in the province by population. Its name recalls the old Encomienda of Wamba, held by the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem from 1140. Within a few years it grew from a small village into a town.

It is divided into eight neighbourhoods: La Flecha, home to the town hall, Arroyo, Doña Juana, Las Lomas, Monasterio, Sotoverde, La Vega and Vega de la Encomienda. There is also an industrial estate and the Río Shopping area, the largest shopping centre in Castile and León.
