Archena is a municipality in the Region of Murcia, at the southern end of the Valle de Ricote, whose economic centre it is. Its hot spring spa dates back to Roman times, and Roman ruins have turned up at the site during recent works. Resettled by many Catalans and Aragonese, it is one of the few Murcian towns that keep the senyera on their coat of arms and flag.

Archena is the newest of the seven villages of the Valle de Ricote. Its neighbours are Villanueva del Río Segura and Ulea, along with Lorquí and Ceutí in the Middle Segura.
