Get to know Aranjuez

Aranjuez is a municipality at the southern end of the Community of Madrid, on the left bank of the Tagus just upstream of where the Jarama joins it. It became one of the Royal Estates of the Spanish Crown in 1560, under Philip II. Until 1752 only royalty and nobility were allowed to live in the town.

A network of historic canals, ditches and dams waters the farmland, known for its strawberries and asparagus. Much of the municipality is protected, including the Carrizal de Villamejor and Regajal-Mar de Ontígola reserves. Its cultural landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
