Get to know Almuñécar

Almuñécar is a town on the Costa Granadina in the province of Granada, bordering Nerja in the province of Málaga. It began as a small Phoenician settlement known for salted fish, which is where locals get the name sexitanos. Today it is one of the main tourist towns on the Granada coast.

The municipality also takes in La Herradura, Velilla-Taramay, Torrecuevas, Río Seco, El Rescate and El Cerval. The Verde, Seco and Jate rivers cross it, and many of its housing estates are second homes.
