Get to know Almendralejo

Almendralejo is a town in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, and the capital of the Tierra de Barros comarca. Its fertile soils have made it one of the leading wine areas in Spain, and since the 1980s it has also produced cava. It is called the City of Romanticism as the birthplace of the poets José de Espronceda and Carolina Coronado.

The old core grew around the parish church and the Casa de la Encomienda of the Order of Santiago, along calle Real and today's calle Mérida, and later reached Altozano, Mártires and Caño. The town lies on the main road and rail route between Mérida and Seville. Its climate is dry, with mild winters and hot summers.
