Get to know Almansa

Almansa is a town and municipality in the province of Albacete, in Castile-La Mancha, on the border with Alicante, Valencia and Murcia. Its name comes from the Arabic for half way along the road. Every May the town holds its Moros y Cristianos festival, and the Battle of Almansa of 1707 is reenacted each year.

The town sits at the foot of a white limestone crag topped by a Moorish castle, in the middle of a fertile, irrigated plain. The Sierra del Mugrón lies within the municipality. Shoemaking is the traditional industry, alongside an industrial estate, Spanish guitar workshops and a hospital.
