Get to know Aller

Aller, called Ayer in Asturian, is a municipality (concejo) of the Principality of Asturias. It borders Mieres to the north, the province of León to the south, Laviana, Caso and Sobrescobio to the east, and Lena to the west. The river Aller runs through it, and coal mining has been its main activity, alongside farming and livestock.

Cabañaquinta is the capital of the concejo. Upriver the landscape turns into a high mountain valley, up to the San Isidro pass, with its ski resort. Moreda, Caborana, El Pino, Piñeres, Boo, Santibáñez de la Fuente and Nembra are among its villages, and the Hoces del Pino and Hoces del Aller are among its natural sights.
