Alía is a municipality in the province of Cáceres, in Extremadura, in the comarca of Las Villuercas. The town was founded in the Middle Ages, in the time of al-Andalus, and its name comes from Arabic, meaning high.
During the Spanish Civil War it was the only municipality in the province that remained in Republican territory. Its settlements include Guadisa, La Calera, Pantano de Cíjara and Puerto del Rey, which it shares with Sevilleja de la Jara.
