Alcuéscar is a municipality in the province of Cáceres, almost in the centre of Extremadura and at the edge of Badajoz. It has 2447 inhabitants (2025) and is the most populated in the Mancomunidad Integral Sierra de Montánchez. It sits between the Sierra del Centinela and the Sierra de la Lombriz.

It is known for the church of Santa Lucía del Trampal, a Visigothic temple from the seventh century, restored and fitted with an interpretation centre. The town lies on the Via de la Plata branch of the Camino de Santiago. Its convent welcomes pilgrims in an albergue.
