Get to know Alcobendas

Alcobendas is a municipality in the Community of Madrid, 15 km north of the capital. Once a working-class area, it is now one of the most affluent municipalities in the Madrid metropolitan area. The actress Penélope Cruz was born here.

The upscale residential area of La Moraleja lies within the municipality, cut off from the main town by the A-1 highway. Alcobendas also has the Valdelatas nature reserve and a light industrial estate. Its basketball museum, run by the Pedro Ferrándiz Foundation, holds the FIBA Hall of Fame.
