Get to know Alcázar de San Juan

Alcázar de San Juan is a town and municipality in the northeast of the province of Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha, on the border with the province of Toledo. It lies on the plain of La Mancha. From the 13th to the 19th century its history was tied to the Grand Priory of the Order of St. John, and in the 19th century it grew into a railway hub.

West of the town are three lagoons: La Veguilla, the Camino de Villafranca lagoon and the Yeguas lagoon. They have become a bird refuge where flamingos and herons can be seen all year.
